Nature-Based Therapy in Central Austin

Sometimes Therapy Doesn't Have to Happen From a Chair

For some people, sitting face-to-face in a traditional therapy setting isn't where they feel most comfortable opening up.

Nature-Based Therapy offers an opportunity to bring the therapeutic process outdoors.

Available in Central Austin, this option may benefit adults who feel more comfortable incorporating walking, movement, fresh air, and the natural environment into their therapy experience.

Walk. Talk. Notice. Connect.

Therapy can look different outside.

Walking alongside your therapist rather than sitting across from one another may make conversation feel more natural. Movement can provide another way to notice emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as they arise.

At other times, a session may involve slowing down rather than walking—sitting outdoors, noticing the environment, practicing mindfulness, or simply allowing nature to become part of the therapeutic space.

The outdoors doesn't replace therapy. It becomes part of the environment in which therapy takes place.

Why Take Therapy Outdoors?

Nature-Based Therapy may appeal to people who:

Feel more comfortable talking while walking

Spend much of their day sitting or looking at screens

Feel connected to nature and the outdoors

Want to incorporate movement into therapy

Find traditional office settings uncomfortable or restrictive

Want opportunities to practice mindfulness and grounding

Are interested in noticing the connection between emotions and physical sensations

Simply feel more like themselves outside

You don't need to be athletic, outdoorsy, or experienced with mindfulness to participate.

Sometimes it's simply easier to talk when you're walking beside someone.

What About Privacy?

Outdoor Therapy Is Different From Office-Based Therapy

Because sessions occur in public or semi-public outdoor spaces, complete privacy cannot be guaranteed.

You may occasionally encounter other people while walking or sitting outdoors.

Before beginning Nature-Based Therapy, we'll discuss confidentiality, privacy, weather, safety, appropriate meeting locations, and what we'll do if we encounter someone either of us knows.

You can decide whether this type of therapy environment feels comfortable for you.

Nature-Based Therapy is offered when clinically appropriate and following an initial assessment of each client’s needs, comfort, mobility, and safety considerations.
